Castro: Chávez and his struggle shook the Latin American continent

The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, ratified today that the homage of Cuba and its people to Hugo Chávez will always accompany and follow him.

The statements were made by Castro during his participation in the closing of the World Meeting for the Validity of the Bolivarian Thought of Commander Chávez in the 21st centuryheld in the Sala Ríos Reina of the Teresa Carreño Theater, in Caracas.

Castro highlighted that Chávez and his fellow fighters shook the Latin American continent and impacted the contemporary history of our America.

“We have been marked by Chávez and witnesses of the aggressions and the economic war to overthrow the Bolivarian process, but we have also witnessed with pride that the Venezuelan people have known how to defend their conquests and not disappoint them,” said the Cuban leader, extolling the resistance of Venezuelans after the sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its allies.

Likewise, he praised the work of President Nicolás Maduro in his desire to continue the work of Chávez and his ability to resist and win.

“Cuba was and will be next to the Venezuelan people, next to Maduro and the civic-military union of the Bolivarian and Chavista people,” he said.

In his speech, the Army General pointed out that one of the strengths of Chávez’s leadership was his loyalty to the principles and commitments he assumed, and assured that he set goals that also show us the way.

He pointed out that the Cuban people quickly identified Chávez’s qualities, his charisma, sympathy and gift with the people, and when he found out about his illness, he inquired about his condition, evolution and what could be done.

He assures that the peoples are not mistaken with their leaders, and the death of Chávez, he said, “caused deep pain in the Cuban people, and in the peoples of the world.”

He recalled that a few days after his departure, Fidel wrote with vehemence and pain in one of his Reflections, published in the Cuban press on March 5, “the best friend the Cuban people had throughout their history has passed away.”

Raúl stated that very early on, Commander in Chief Fidel saw a leader in Chávez and envisioned his political future, when many still didn’t even know him.

Chávez had the same revolutionary impetus that drives the Revolution Cuban, Fidel’s idea that victory exists as long as it is fought; that was in his ideas, he pointed out.

He remarked that the concept that “yes we can”, although the challenges are immense, Chávez put into practice on a daily basis.

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today sent a hug to Venezuela in memory of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, on the tenth anniversary of his physical disappearance.

In his Twitter account, the president indicated that with Army General Raúl Castro, and the government delegation that accompanies him, he sent his hug and that of the entire island for these 10 years of “painful absence.”

In another message he mentioned the verses of César Vallejo: “There are such strong blows in life…” and he classified as such the announcement of “that very sad March 5, 2013”, when the current Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, announced to the world the physical departure of the military and politician who changed the world. destiny of the South American nation.
