Cases of COVID-19 and dengue fever increase in Cuba

Madrid Spain.- The Cuban authorities recognized the increase in cases of COVID-19 and dengue in the country during the last month.

So far in July, the transmission of the COVID-19 virus has grown by 83.8% compared to June, as the average number of cases per day increased to 41.9; against 22.8 recorded in the sixth month of the year, indicated the specialists of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) during their weekly meeting.

Until July 9, 207 cases remained active, a figure that represents 66 more if compared to the previous week, said José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Health of Cuba.

Havana, Pinar del Río and Holguín are the provinces with the highest probability that infections will continue to increase.

At the meeting, reviewed by the official Cubadebatethe experts pointed out that it is necessary “to insist that people voluntarily opt for the use of the mask, which is an effective protection against the possibility that there may be an increase in positive cases.”

Regarding dengue, health officials indicated that currently five provinces have transmission of the disease.

According to the information, last week the incidence rate of suspected cases grew by 42% compared to the previous week; and the territories with numbers higher than the national average are Isla de la Juventud, Camagüey, Holguín, Havana, Guantánamo and Pinar del Río.

At the beginning of this month, the Ministry of Public Health reported that the Island was on alert for dengue, as well as that so far in 2022 the highest number of outbreaks in the last 15 years has been recorded.
