After the controversy that arose after the video broadcast by the national network on SERTV, the Vice President of the Republic, José Gabriel Carrizo, defended himself, assuring that said video was sent to all the media and not exclusively to this State media.
He clarified that “the video was sent to all the television stations, in fact, when I left to film it I had TVN radio, and I heard it there, I did not hear it on SERTV.” What happened yesterday was a message of the decision we made to not run for any office. We decided not to, I decided to be respectful of the will of thousands of Panamanians who voted last May 2019 by choosing me as Vice President of the Republic” he said and added that “the President of the Republic and I are aware of the objectives we want to achieve, right now we are focused on improving people’s quality of life.” But, he warns that he is also interested in strengthening the Party.
When asked about his political aspirations, the vice president declared that it is too early to talk about it. But, he recognizes that “everything has its time and its moment. The bases are the ones who decide and they are the ones who will decide, for example, in a primary, almost 700,000 members are the ones who will decide, ”he said.
Regarding his support for a candidate, the vice president affirms that all the candidates are valuable and the delegates, elected in an election that broke participation records, are the ones who will have to decide who are the members of the National Executive Committee. “I will exercise my right to vote, and the vote is secret, but all colleagues are valuable,” he stressed.
He emphasized the joint work that has been carried out hand in hand with the president. “You have seen the efforts we have made, the health system has not collapsed, a successful vaccination program and an economic recovery that is not only anticipated by national indicators but also international ones. We still have many challenges to meet”, he specified.
