Carlos Basombrío covers the Constituent Assembly: “Let’s not be fooled”

For the political analyst and former Minister of the Interior, this measure is not only unconstitutional but also lacks popular support due to the investigations in which it is submerged .

What is the x-ray of this measure and how is it being promoted?

There are many people who care about the specific problems of the country, something that the government of Pedro Castillo does not do. The second place, which is the fight against corruption, clearly has to do with the displeasure that the population has against the head of government, who is accused by the Prosecutor’s Office of being the head of a criminal organization. That is very strong, that the nephews and nephews have the same with their former secretary general. In the case of citizen security, they have been deceiving us that the presence of the Armed Forces in the streets would calm the situation, but it is the same or worse. What is happening is very serious because to this is added the increase in prices where the government was completely wrong in the measures it took. And by the way, it hasn’t lowered prices, but they’re still going up, so it’s a set of problems. Congress has to send this unconstitutional and illegal project, badly done, to the bin. They are going to try to encourage violent acts in different places because they are very active minorities. I would hold the cabinet accountable for these acts.

Are Free Peru and the Government lying to the country when they say that the people ask for a Constituent Assembly?

Of course, the polls are unequivocal on this. It is not the only survey, there are many that have been done throughout this time, the one in Cusco is very striking, for example. At the meeting in the Coliseum there were about 50 leaders who shouted for a Constituent Assembly and for Congress to resign. It may be that there are more leaders who think like this, but they selected those who entered and those who did not. So, don’t tell us that the people want a Constituent Assembly, the people want Castillo to go. 68% ask that President Castillo leave. That is what the people say. What happened in Huancayo was a revelation of what the people think, enormous protests against Castillo and against Cerrón. And what happened in Lima when they wanted to lock us up, there is the citizen presence that manifests itself in these situations that marked a breaking point.

How do you think the measured population will take?

It is a delusional intention that will not happen, the response will be massive and rejection. They would lose the referendum. That is something that is not going to happen. Let’s not be fooled by these people, they are politically evicted people persecuted by justice, who are looking for a way forward.

What is behind the CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY?
The government seeks to give the peasant patrols the status of an indigenous community, while in its NEW CONSTITUTION project it grants these communities 26 of the representation. Specialists warn that a referendum would be a distraction in the face of a political crisis. KUÉLAP also suffers from the apathy and neglect of the State.
