Cardinal Errázuriz responds to President Gabriel Boric: "Even leaders can make mistakes"

The Archbishop Emeritus of Santiago, Francisco Javier Errazurizhad words to the sayings of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boricwho criticized the presence of Ricardo Ezzatti in the ecumenical ceremony at the beginning of his mandate held this past Saturday.

Faced with these sayings, Cardinal Errázuriz pointed out in The second that “even the Presidents of the Republic can make mistakes”.

Likewise, he defended himself against the accusations made by the president. “Apparently, Mr. Gabriel Boric does not know everything we did to find out about the abuses of Fernando Karadimawho were covered up by many of his disciples, the trial that we opened on him, lifting all the prescription of the facts, and the punishment that the Vatican imposed on him, removing him from the exercise of the priesthood,” he said.

“It is impossible for a President, who has just assumed his responsibility, to have exact knowledge of who participates year after year in these prayers for Chile,” he added.

The religious authority insisted that “it is clear that our President, Gabriel Boric, is not aware of what Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati did and what I myself did, fighting against abuses of power and sexual abuse in Chile.”

In addition, Errázuriz maintained that “the government has access to the list of guests. For this reason, many Christians have always participated in that prayer, including serving bishops and emeritus bishops, as well as those responsible for other religious groups.”

“The words of our President, annoyed by our presence at the event, come after the event itself and do not offend me. They stem from a lack of knowledge on his part of a long tradition,” he concluded.
