Cardinal Baltazar Porras denounced that they have been making calls on his behalf to priests abroad to ask for money. He said that his phone has been violated and asked the public to be aware of it.
The Archdiocese of Caracas reported on its social networks on the night of Thursday, June 5 that the mobile phone of the Bishop of Mérida and apostolic administrator of the capital instance, Cardinal Baltazar Porras, was hacked and that they carry out telephone scams on his behalf.
According to the message in Twitter of the Archdiocese, unknown subjects pose as Cardinal Porras to ask for money from priests who live abroad. In this sense, he thanked the people who know about the case, denounce it and asked people to be careful not to fall for this scam.

The director of the Criminal and Criminal Scientific Investigation Corps (Cicpc), Douglas Rico, said that crime has decreased at “very important” levels. He indicated that criminals have gone from committing violent acts to carrying out scams and computer crimes, modalities that increased after the covid-19 pandemic.

One of the most notorious are the messages through WhatsApp mentioning that they are people with names like “Ana” or “María”, who are actually deprived of liberty making these contacts, to steal money.
Then, with the phishing modality (by clicking on a link data theft is allowed), it has been recorded that users must resort to other ways of communicating that they have been hacked and that they are not requesting money, as was the case with Cardinal Baltazar Porras.
