Economic losses are perceived after the last street closures recorded on the Pan-American highway, by the residents of the Ngäbe Buglé Comarca, the business associations have shown their rejection of these actions.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Agriculture and Tourism of Chiriquí, through a statement, assured that although they recognize the value of the demands of the protesters, in terms of health, security, water, streets, education, among others, they strongly rejected the closures. of streets, affecting not only the residents of the area, but also the economy of many sectors.
Faced with this situation, the union asked the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, to take concrete actions to avoid these protests.
“Our call as a business organization, Your Excellency Mr. President, is focused so that officials carry out their work; those in public office are committed to solving problems. We note that the state payroll is increasing and the response capacity is decreasing. With the budget that is managed in our country, these problems should not be part of the agenda; There are financial and human resources to solve them, however, they are not given due attention,” said the union.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) joined this opinion and also said that street closures have a negative impact on the economy and the population in general.
In his Twitter account, the president of the CCIAP, José Ramón de Icaza, stated that the situation in Chiriquí is worrying and therefore the call of the Chamber of this province is loud and clear, since the current situation puts at risk the attraction of investments that promote employment and therefore social peace. “We expect concrete actions, Mr. President,” he said.
