After remaining closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic, now some schools in the province of Buenos Aires, they must cancel their classes or shorten their schedules due to the lack of gas for heating.
From this Monday, educational establishments began to close their doors because in the schools there is no gas to heat the classrooms, which affects more than 300,000 students in the province.
According to official data, at least 350 schools had to implement this force measure due to the lack of heating; however, this would not be the first time that this problem has been reported.
According to the Seduca union, during the last decade the problem of the lack of gas to heat the classrooms has been repeated year after year, which has meant that students miss up to 17 days of class.
In this opportunity, each campus has determined how to continue with the school day; in this sense, some have decided to suspend classes, while others shorten the schedule so that so many days of class are not lost.
The provincial Ministry of Education pointed out that of the 11,000 schools there are, 2,000 reported having problems with heating and, although an investment was made to fix the issue, 350 still have problems.
The districts most affected by the suspensions are Merlo, with 120 schools closed, and Quilmes, with 59 closures. Followed by La Plata, La Matanza, Lomas de Zamora, Berazategui, Avellaneda and Lanús, which also reported dozens of schools without service.
