Bruno Fernandes renews until 2026 with Manchester United

Manchester United announced this Friday that its Portuguese international midfielder Bruno Fernandes signed a new contract with the ‘Red Devils’ until 2026, with an option for one more year.

The player had a contract with the English team until 2025, and this renewal places him among the best paid in the squad.

According to the British media, his salary would double to reach 240,000 pounds (288,000 euros / around 315,000 dollars) a week.

Author of 49 goals and 39 goal assists in 177 games since his arrival from Sporting de Portugal in January 2020 for more than 60 million euros, he was twice chosen as the team’s best player by the fans.

Despite his 9 goals and 14 assists in 37 games this season, United may not qualify for the next Champions League.

He is currently 6th with 4 points behind and one game more than Arsenal, the last virtual qualifier, in fourth place.

Bruno Fernandes was also instrumental in Portugal’s recent qualification for the World Cup in Qatar by scoring both goals in the play-off final against North Macedonia (2-0) on Tuesday.

“Everyone is fully aware of the importance of Bruno for Manchester United. His statistics in terms of goals and assists are excellent and he has maintained incredible regularity in his performances since his arrival at the club,” said the director of football for Manchester United. Manchester United manager John Murtough in the statement.

Given the possible departures of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard or Edinson Cavani, Manchester United is counting on the Portuguese to put an end to five years without titles.

“Even after two years it’s still an incredible feeling to walk onto the pitch at Old Trafford… It’s a real privilege to wear this shirt and fight for this incredible club,” Fernandes said.

“The best is yet to come, for me and for the team,” he added.
