The senator and president of Renovación Nacional (RN), Francisco Chahuán, reiterated the annoyance that exists in RN with the other parties of Chile Vamos, after they supported Álvaro Elizalde (PS) for the presidency of the Senate instead of Manuel José Ossandon (RN).
At a press point, he pointed out that “for now, we have suspended our participation in the coordination bodies (of Chile Vamos), we do not want to talk about breaking yet, because these decisions will be made in the RN’s collective deliberation bodies.”
“This is not a discussion regarding a particular position, this is how we understand how to build a coalition,” he accused, stressing that after assuming the presidency of the party, “we have put all our strength to ensure that this coalition could be re-institutionalized and we did it”.
“I want to say to the UDI and Evópoli that the Senate is not tied, in the Senate we are the majority and what the UDI and Evópoli did was hold parallel conversations unknown to us, under the table, reach an agreement with the . If the UDI and Evópoli believe that they can better defend (in this way) our democratic institutions and better defend citizen rights, our positions and better defend the Senate, we are wrong. That is part of the political and strategic error that the UDI and Evópoli made”, he warned.
In this way, the parliamentarian reiterated that “RN enters a state of deep reflection and when we talk about that it means that all the party’s bodies are going to speak out, because as we are a democratic party, decisions are made collectively.”
