Brazil secured a double in the 200-meter race in the VL2 class (for athletes who use their torso and arms when rowing) with the conquest, this Sunday (8), of the gold medal with Fernando Rufino from Mato Grosso do Sul and the silver with Igor Tofalini from Paraná.
Fernando completed the race in 50.47 seconds, the fastest time in the history of the Games, winning his second Paralympic championship (he won gold in the same event at the Tokyo Games). Tofalini finished in 51.78 seconds and came in second place, in an exciting finish against the American Blake Haxton, who won bronze with a time of 51.81 seconds.
“Guys at home, my family from Itaquiraí [cidade do Mato Grosso do Sul]my Brazil, which I represented, all rowed together. I carry a green and yellow flag. So here we still don’t have the dimension, because the joy that I will receive later will be greater than the emotion that I am experiencing here today”, declared the Paralympic champion.
