British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in Kiev meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Downing Street confirmed the meeting between Johnson and Zelenskiy in Kiev. “The prime minister traveled to Ukraine to meet President Zelenskiy personally, in a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” announced a government spokesman.
“They will discuss the UK’s long-term support for Ukraine and the prime minister will establish a new package of financial and military aid,” he added.
Zelenskiy’s deputy, Andriy Sybyga, also shared a photo of the meeting between the two leaders on the social network Facebook, writing that “Britain leads the military support to Ukraine, the anti-war coalition and the sanctions against the Russian aggressor”. .
Johnson’s visit to Kiev comes a day after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European diplomatic chief Josep Borrell also met with the Ukrainian president in Kiev.
Boris Johnson is the first G7 leader to visit Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
