Bone without chicken in butcher shops in Havana: “It is said and not believed”

MIAMI, United States. — The return of chicken to Cuban butcher shops —announced with great fanfare by the island’s regime- has not been the balm that many expected. In recent days, users on social networks have denounced the little meat that is delivered to the population in these establishments, in charge of distributing the basic basket products.

Ana Julia Font Hernández, a professor at the Agrarian University of Havana, denounced in her Facebook account that in the eight-pound package of chicken his family received, there were bones without meat.

“It is said and not believed. I’ve heard it from other people and didn’t believe it until I experienced it myself. My daughter defrosted the package of chicken that we get from the store. I want you to know that there are eight of us in the notebook and they give me that eight-pound package, the same as a core of a person, and look what we found: a little gift of bones,” the user wrote.

The professor indicated that situations of this type perfectly illustrate the reality that is lived in Cuba.

“This is unheard of, that is why we are as we are, the Cubans themselves are killing ourselves with the prices and with what they do. This is not the fault of the blockade”, added Font Hernández.

Similar situations have been reported in recent days, especially after the arrival in the country of 4,500 tons of chicken. A first part was unloaded between Saturday and Tuesday in the port of Havana, while the other would be sent to Santiago de Cuba to be distributed to the eastern region.

The monthly pound of chicken corresponding to each Cuban is composed, in many cases, of a bone and a piece of meat with some meat. In some cases, pieces of fat are also noticeable.
