Bolivia fell one place in the ranking of Freedom of Expression and the Pressin relation to the 2021 list. According to the Chapultepec Index that analyzed events between August 2, 2021 and August 1, 2022. A partial restriction on these freedoms is observed in the country.
“Below the average global index, also in ‘partial restriction’, are Honduras, Ecuador, Brazil, BoliviaMexico and El Salvador,” states part of the report.
In 2020, Bolivia was in the red band with a high restriction in position 18. In 2021, he rose to 15th place with a partial restriction and this year he dropped to 16th place, staying in the same category.
Among the countries with full freedom of expression and of the press are Canada and Jamaica. While Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua continue to share the last three positions with a total absence of those freedoms.
The global results of the 22 countries of the continent show an average Global Index of 53.69 pointswhich reflects a decrease in the general situation of 1.92 points in the hemisphere, in relation to the average Index of last year, when it was 55.62 points.
The Chapultepec Index is a barometer of the state of institutional actions in terms of freedom of the press and expression. The report was presented during the 78th General Assembly of the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA)
More than 150 experts participated in this version, including journalists, media directors, academics and lawyers who are experts in freedom of expression.
New quantitative data on violence and impunity were incorporated. In addition to assaults, homicides, attacks on mediathe figures of forced displacements were incorporated, which gave greater accuracy to the objective fields that intervene in the measurement.
