This was reported this Saturday by the investment agency Invest in Bogotá, which detailed in a statement that this index “highlights Bogotá as one of the cities in Latin America and the Caribbean with the best rating and places it in position 81 among 119 destinations analyzed.”

The Colombian capital reached its best position since it entered the index, in March of last year, for which the vice president of competitiveness of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB), Juan Carlos González, assured that “The determined work of the initiative of the Financial Services Cluster of Bogotá and the region, led by the CCB, hand in hand with different public and private actors at the local and national levels, has been decisive in this achievement of the city”.

This, in his opinion, “It evidences the results of nearly five years in the execution of projects and actions to strengthen innovation capacities, specialize human talent and improve inclusion rates and financial education in the city.”

(Foreign direct investment in Bogotá grew by 78% in 2021).

“In addition, the effort made in the last two years by the companies in the cluster is noteworthy, improving and sophisticating their financial solutions to meet the needs of use and access to financial services in a context of pandemic and reactivation”, express.

The Global Financial Centers Index, which is compiled by Z/Yen, a London financial district think tank, and the China Development Institute (CDI), is developed from surveys of thousands of financial sector players in more than 100 cities and measures aspects such as business environment, human capital, infrastructure, reputation and development of the financial sector.

AN ATTRACTIVE CITY

In the survey, Bogotá appears as the only city in Latin America mentioned more than 20 times by those surveyed, which is why it is highlighted as one of the most attractive destinations to live and work.

“The progress in this index brings a series of very important benefits for the city, above all because it is an input that large investors take into account when making decisions,” said Alfredo Bateman, Secretary of Economic Development of Bogotá.

He added: “Without a doubt, this will result in a greater attraction of investment that, in the long term, will help us generate new jobs and close the gaps left by the pandemic.”

Likewise the Global Financial Centers Index includes a section that highlights the most important elements to generate a competitive environment for Fintech companies and there Bogotá appears in position 74.

“Bogota’s performance in this ranking is an example of the good results generated by the articulated work between the public sector and private companies”said the executive director of Invest in Bogota, Isabella Muñoz.

He explained that “The challenge for the city is to capitalize on this type of recognition, integrate it into its value proposition and turn it into a differential for attracting investment projects that promote the development of the capital.”
