Bodies of two migrants who died in the Rio Grande arrive in Nicaragua

The bodies of Nicaraguan migrants Kevin Kenneth Blass Cardoza26 years old, and Catalina del Socorro Luna Orozco40 years old, drowned in the Rio Grande while trying to cross into the United States, arrived in the country, confirmed the Texas Nicaraguan Community organization this Saturday, June 4.

The repatriation process was assisted by teams from Mexico and the non-profit organization for humanitarian aid to the Nicaraguan population. “The consolation of receiving your loved one and burying him closes a cycle of loss and gives resignation to the family,” said the Texas Nicaraguan Community when confirming the arrival of the bodies in the Central American country.

Irregular migrants crossing the Rio Grande to reach the United States

Kevin Blass-Cardoza, originally from Managua, disappeared since Monday, May 16, while trying to cross the waters of the Rio Grande in search of the “American dream.” The young man was found dead three days later, in the morning hours, by the Mexican Public Ministry.

Blass leaves a two-year-old child in the orphanage and, according to national media, the wife had been in the United States since December 2021.

Catalina del Socorro Luna She was originally from Boaco and had been reported missing since May 13. The woman was part of a group of four migrants who were swept away by the waters of the border river, and whose body remained unidentified until seven days later.

«The identification was by a particular badge on his left foot. Her relatives had reported her disappearance to us and we finally found her in Piedras Negras,” the humanitarian organization reported on May 19.

About twenty Nicaraguans have died in the waters of the Rio Grande in recent months, in their attempt to enter the North American country. Most flee the precarious economic situation and government repression.
