Petroleum of Venezuela (Pdvsa) is evaluating the reactivation of an abandoned gas pipeline in the west of the country, in order to export natural gas, according to Juan Ricardo Ortega, head of one of the largest electricity companies in Colombia.
According to his information, the Venezuelan state company hopes to reactivate the 224 km gas pipeline that connects the Venezuelan gas fields with the northeast of Colombia, highlighted the also president of Grupo Energía Bogotá SA (GEB).
Ortega commented that envoys from people analyzing the feasibility of the project approached him to raise the possibility of using his GEB gas pipeline network to distribute fuel within Colombia.
“As transporters we have the infrastructure that could bring that gas to the market and we are more than interested in that happening,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg Line. “There are many activities that could make the transition to gas in Colombia if it had the reliability and the right price.
Despite these statements, the newspaper assured that PDVSA did not answer questions about it.
What would the reactivation of the gas pipeline represent?
However, it is noteworthy that the reopening of the gas pipeline known as Antonio Ricaurte could represent a recovery from the economic crisis in Venezuela. In addition, to reduce the risk of a gas shortage in Colombia in 2025 or 2026.
This possibility of reactivation is possible within the framework of relaxation of the negotiations between the government of the United States and that of Nicolás Maduro in oil matters, which began last March, as a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
