Life is a tombola
The raffle held by the Senate on Saturday to decide the positions of judges and magistrates that will be up for election in 2025 was the center of opposition criticism, both during the discussion in general and in particular, after which the minutes It received 342 votes in favor and 128 against, without modifying the minutes from the Senate.
The draft decree was sent to the Executive for its promulgation and entry into force, but not before the parliamentary groups confronted each other.
The PAN member Liliana Ortiz took the draw to satire and with a transparent ballot box and balls she “fired” Morenista senators in a raffle. PRI member César Alejandro Domínguez preferred to play music and in the stands he heard: “Life is a raffle; tom, tom, tombola. Life is a tombola; tom, tom, tombolaaa”, and other legislators brought balls to the platform, they played with the idea.
Morena, in defense of the reform, warned that there was no tombola but insaculation. But the Dictionary of the Spanish Language, which was asked to be read, agreed with the opponents because it is the same:
“Tombola. Public raffle of various objects, generally as a fair business or for charitable purposes. Raffle, draw, lottery, chance. Stall or place where a raffle, booth or stall is held. Synonyms or related to tombola: raffle, draw, lottery, chance, booth, stall,” read the secretary of the board of directors Alan Márquez.
For Morena, then, the country used a democratic method. “In ancient Greece, democracy was born in a raffle, ladies and gentlemen, we need to read,” defended the Morenoist José Carlos Acosta Ruiz.
