President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that her government plans to build one million low-cost homes during the six-year term. The objective is for the price of the houses to range between 700,000 and 1,200,000 pesos, so that they are accessible to Mexican families.

The federal president explained that the project will primarily serve women heads of households, young people, indigenous people and older adults.

He explained that his administration will create a construction company to achieve the goal.

The objective is low-cost housing so that Mexican families and, particularly, young people, have access to it.he emphasized.

Yesterday morning the details of the Housing and Regularization Program were presented with which, in addition to new constructions, support will be granted to improve or expand 450 thousand more homes and one million deeds will be regularized, especially in areas with greater economic delays.

The head of the federal Executive stressed that the main objective of the program is to guarantee this right, which did not happen in neoliberal governments, when the construction of apartments was thought of as a real estate development project and not as works to ensure the guarantees of the people. from Mexico.

“During the (neoliberal) period, mainly of (Vicente) Fox and (Felipe) Calderón, Infonavit dedicated itself to building homes far from urban centers, many of which are abandoned, there is even talk of 600 thousand homes (in that condition) or even some that have been occupied by those who are not the original owners.

Before it only benefited real estate agencies

It was a program for real estate companies, where those who benefited were companies (in the sector), some of which even went bankrupt (…) This program is totally different, the objective is to provide housing for those who need it most. It is not building homes for the sake of building homes, that is the big difference between the neoliberal period and the Fourth Transformationhe stressed.

Sheinbaum pointed out that they are also working on a project to recover those 600,000 abandoned buildings.

The head of the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), Edna Vega Rangel, explained that for this program an investment of around 600 billion pesos is estimated and more than 6.1 million direct jobs and 9 million indirect.

He pointed out that half of the new houses will be built by the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit), for beneficiaries; and the other will be done by the National Housing Commission (Conavi), for non-beneficiaries, whose financing will be from the Financiera del Bienestar.

The new homes, indicated the secretary, will be distributed as follows: in the south-southeast region 325 thousand, in the center of the country 239 thousand 400, in the central-north zone 228 thousand 800 and in the north 206 thousand 800.

The housing units will be close to workplaces, schools, there will be public transportation and they will have all the services. They will have an average of 60 square meters.

Vega Rangel pointed out that the government’s goal for 2025 is to build 165 thousand new homes, improve 100 thousand apartments and houses in the eastern part of the state of Mexico and regularize 120 thousand deeds.

Octavio Romero, director of Infonavit, asserted that 288 billion pesos will be allocated for the construction of the half million homes that correspond to the institute in this six-year term; In addition, 250 thousand credits will be granted for improvements, with an estimated investment of 20 billion pesos, as well as one million credits to repair or expand housing from the ordinary program.

He revealed that the President’s instruction was that the construction company be established at Infonavit, with which costs will be reduced.

Rodrigo Chávez, general director of Conavi, indicated that this entity will build 500 thousand more homes, with an investment of 285 billion pesos.

An improvement program will also be carried out for 300 thousand homes with 15 billion pesos.
