President Pedro Castillo’s lawyer, Benji Espinoza, contradicted the Nation’s prosecutor Patricia Barreto, who had indicated that the president should go to give his statements at the Public Ministry. In this regard, the lawyer maintained that the proceedings are already being coordinated with the prosecutorial team so that the proceedings are carried out this Thursday, August 4, at the Government Palace.
“The prosecutor of the Nation cannot force the president to go to the headquarters of the Public Ministry. The members of her prosecutorial team have communicated with me and with the Palace to coordinate tomorrow’s diligence in the Palace, not in the Prosecutor’s Office, “wrote the president’s defense.
This in response to the statements that Patricia Barreto gave to RPP, where she stated that she would not go to the Executive headquarters to take the statements of the Head of State.
Previously, Benji Espinoza had requested that said procedure be carried out at the Government Palace; however, for the Nation’s prosecutor, this prerogative would not correspond to the president because his quality is that of an investigator and not a witness.
