Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro returned to visit Havana, where he shared with colleagues, musicians and professionals linked to Cuban cinema.
The Puerto Rican, who had recently been in the country, was one of the guests at the sapphire wedding of Cuban casting director Libia Miranda, where he exchanged with renowned Cuban actors such as Tahimi Alvariño and René de la Cruz.
In several circulating photos of the event, the Traffic actor is seen driving an almendrón through the streets of Havana, with the couple in the back seat of the car.
With a career spanning more than 30 years in the film industry, Libia Batista has worked alongside directors of various generations such as Gerardo Chijona, Arturo Sotto, Juan Carlos Tabío, Jorge Perugorría, Pavel Giroud, Eduardo del Llano, Carlos Lechuga, Alejandro Brugués, Rigoberto López, and Orlando Rojas, among others.
She recently became the first casting director in Latin America to be part of the Oscar Awards jury along with 819 other members of the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Born in Puerto Rico in 1967, Benicio del Toro has visited the Island on several occasions. In 2019 he participated in the 41st edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, and a year earlier he presented the film Sicario II at the film event.
Winner of an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Traffic, Del Toro has worked in well-known films such as 21 Grams, Strange Blood Bond, and Seven Days in Havana, among others.
