After being invested this Saturday as the new rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Editrudis Beltrán undertook to bring this higher education institution to educational excellence, during a ceremony attended by President Luis Abinader.
The rector assured that he will promote the necessary reforms to achieve a study center in accordance with the new times, which will be the pride of the Dominican people and the Uasdians.
Beltrán stated that the time has come for the Uasdian family to work together to carry out the transformations that Dominican society requires.
“From today we will do what is necessary so that the Primate of America has a common agenda and moves from inertia to excellence,” he said.
With the slow voice that characterizes him, in a Great Hall full of people who frequently applauded him, Beltrán asked the president, placed to the left of the podium, to continue giving economic support to the UASD, since his goal of achieving improvement is Stronger than the adversities I could face
The physicist by profession expressed that the Uasdian community believes that it can be done and is there to defy all forecasts.

Beltrán emphasized that the story that begins today is not about simple desires, but about conviction, dedication and passion and shared work, “to raise the pride of being a Uasdiano to the top.”
“The time has come to reconnect the Primacy of America with its greatness, we are going to place the UASD at the center of the debate on national issues and create public-private collaborations to support, from the academy, in its solution”, he explained.
The professor with more than 40 years in practice, said that as part of his actions in the first 100 days, all his effort will be dedicated to organization and institutional synergy.
Beltrán was sworn in by the outgoing rector, Emma Polanco, who highlighted the support offered by the current government and also commented that the UASD celebrated today 56 years of internal democracy, with 20 changes of authorities in free and transparent elections.
In his management, Beltrán will be accompanied by Rosalía Sosa, vice-rector for extension, Ramón Desangles, administrative vice-rector, Wilson Mejía, teaching vice-rector, and Radhames Silverio, research and postgraduate vice-rector.
Future
“We have to broaden our perspective and start making decisions with a future perspective. On the eve of the 500th anniversary of our Alma Mater, it is a high privilege to appear before you and the country to take on this transcendental challenge of promoting the second wave of the most important reforms in the history of the UASD”, he stated.

Elections
Editrudis Beltrán was elected in the UASD elections, held on July 15, defeating fellow teacher Jorge Asjana David with more than 50%. The day after the process, the electoral commission declared Professor Beltrán the winner. In addition to the rector, the Primate of America, 107 new officials of the academy were elected, distributed both in the central headquarters and in the different extensions. 3,215 voters participated in the electoral process throughout the national territory.
