Bella Colina prison decongested

After joint work by Ombudsman and the Public Ministry, the authorities promised to speed up the process of decongesting the prison in the sector beautiful hillin West Santo Domingo.

This Saturday, the OmbudsmanPablo Ulloa, the deputy Elías Báez and the prosecutor of Santo Domingo Oeste, Edward López, visited the facility and began the process of transferring the inmates, whose population exceeds its capacity.

“We have been able to verify that the prison in the basement of beautiful hill it is inhumane and in it the rights of people are violated. That is why we advocate for its rapid decongestion and closure, since it violates fundamental rights”, Ulloa explained when visiting the facilities, according to a press release.

According to the data provided by the authorities, in this enclosure there is capacity for some 20 people and had a total of 160 inmates.

“We want to thank the Ombudsman for listening to our request, coming here and checking the deplorable conditions in which the inmates are,” explained Elías Báez, deputy for this province.

This Saturday, 14 people were dispatched to other centers, who have to comply with coercive measures in other prisons and whose processes had been delayed.

“This week we have mobilized several inmates to decongest this prison, and by speeding up the processes we understand that in a prudent time we will have a space with capacity for the number of people established,” said Edwar López, prosecutor of Santo Domingo Oeste.

It is expected that in a week, at the latest, with the speeding up of the processes by the Attorney General’s Office, said prison will be able to operate in acceptable conditions.
