The Minister of Economy, Silvina Batakis, affirmed that in the coming days there will be a new basket of goods and services of Care Prices, to moderate inflation, while announcing that this Thursday she will disclose the composition of her cabinet and ruled out a modification of the official exchange rate.
Speaking to the “A dos vozs” program of the TN cable signal, Batakis emphasized that “we cannot accept that any business highlights prices because there is inflation. We are going to seek an agreement with the price makers, but the fundamental thing is to find a solution There is a situation of uncertainty and we are working with a basket of goods and services that we are going to announce in the next few days.”
The head of the Palacio de Hacienda expressed that “inflation in Argentina has many causes. This is widely shared by many economists in Argentina. People have found preservation of their savings in the dollar. Price control is one more mechanisms to control inflation but there are other instruments that need long-term such as investment in infrastructure”.
Batakis affirmed that “the official dollar is not going to be devalued, the dollar is embedded in many prices of goods and services. When you look at the multilateral exchange rate (TCM) it is competitive and there are no reasons to devalue. We are going to have a record trade balance but we are not in a risky situation. Argentina needs to export. Companies are stocked and that puts us in a better situation to be able to export”.
Later, the minister specified that “the dollar is a scarce resource and that has to be at the service of the productive matrix, apply it so that we are all better off.”
Asked about the demand for dollars for travel and for the purchase of goods abroad, the minister said that “the right to travel collides with the generation of jobs. That is what the government is for, to alleviate these tensions. And when we import products end we imported jobs that were generated abroad”.
In relation to the rise of the dollar in the financial market, Batakis pointed out that “the blue dollar is a marginal market, it is not a reference for the goods and services produced in Argentina. Tension situations are generated in the economy, but in these three days we saw that the Central Bank (BCRA) can handle the situation”.
