BARAHONA – A court of this jurisdiction will hear next Thursday the request for a measure of coercion consisting of preventive detention made by the Public Ministry against three agents of the National Police and a civilian linked to the kidnapping of a corporal from that institution.
The measure was requested from the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services against the members of the Wellington Police Francisco Ferreras, Jonathan Andrés Pérez Pérez and Cherilyn Suero Medina.
As well as the civilian Jorge Luis Díaz, who are linked to the kidnapping of Corporal Esteban Armando Féliz Batista (Chatica), a fact recorded as a result of the theft of a drug shipment.
The interim Barahona prosecutor, Wellington Matos Espinal, said that the measure was postponed at the request of the defenses to next Thursday, November 25, at 10:00 in the morning.
This, to deposit arraigos and for the accused Cherilyn Suero Medina to hire a lawyer or be represented by a public defender.
The judge of the Permanent Attention Court, María Consuelo Valenzuela, will hear the request for a measure of coercion consisting of one year of preventive detention.
Similarly, the granting of a period of eight months to the Barahona Prosecutor’s Office to conclude the preparatory process, as well as the declaration of a complex case and ordering the kidnapping of the sum of RD $ 1,756,400 seized in the process.
The file indicates that the defendants joined forces to kidnap the police agent Féliz Batista on November 3, around 7:20 in the morning, on the Barahona-Pedernales highway, when he was traveling on a motorcycle owned by him.
In the course of the investigations, the investigators have established that the incident was registered as a result of the theft of around 400 kilograms of cocaine and marijuana on August 28, off the coast of La Salina, Villa Central.
The instance with the request for coercion indicates that the defendants demanded 5 million pesos for the release of the kidnapped.
Later, when he failed to do so, they demanded that he look for the 2 million pesos obtained from the sale of the drug, proceeding with the delivery of more than 1 million 745 thousand pesos.
Later, they left him abandoned in some bushes, from where he was taken to a police station and an investigation was opened that led to the arrest of the accused.
The Public Ministry attributes violating several articles of the Dominican Penal Code, Law 583 on Kidnapping, Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances, as well as Law 631-16 for the Control and Regulation of Arms, Ammunition and Related Materials.
The Public Ministry recalled that it also requested 18 months of preventive detention for several police officers linked to the theft of the drug shipment.
