Roberto Baradel was re-elected as general secretary of the Single Union of Education Workers of Buenos Aires (Suteba) with more than 80% of the votes in the elections that took place this Wednesday, with a mandate until 2025.
The provisional scrutiny of the vote of the teachers, professors and preceptors affiliates of the 2,150 branches throughout the province of Buenos Aires ended this morning and, according to what the union leader told Télam, his list -the Celeste-Violeta- won by more than 80% about the opponents “Multicolor” (led by national deputy Romina del Plá) and “Azul y Blanca” (by Marta Gómez).
In addition, the ruling party recovered five of the sectionals that were in the hands of the opposition: Escobar, Quilmes, Madariaga, Ensenada and La Matanza.
“We managed to lead in most of the districts of the province of Buenos Aires since the Celeste-Violeta List was imposed in 97% of the 133 districts in which the union has a presence; while the Multicolor obtained 2.25% and the Blue and White 0.75%Baradel said.
“We will continue to fight, today and every day, for the rights of education workers, for the public school and for the social right to education,” asserted the re-elected head of Suteba and pointed out: “Always democracy, always the public school, always the unity of the workers!”

Always democracy, always the public school, always the unity of the workers!– Roberto Baradel (@RobiBaradel) May 12, 2022
At the same time, he highlighted “the importance of this democratic day” and analyzed that “this was recognition for having defended the public school and the rights of education workers, despite the attacks by the governments of Mauricio Macri and Maria Eugenia Vidal”.
“It is the assessment of our union policy because we were always at the side of each of the teachers during the pandemic, defending their rights and public education,” he remarked.
He argued that education workers, “strengthened in unity and union democracy, exercise our right to vote and elect our representatives for the next 4 years because, as it was 36 years ago, the public school is and will continue to be our banner of struggle” .
