Banxico Museum wins international architecture competition

On the official page of the award, it was detailed that RIWA Arquitectura, MIDE and Photo Jaime Navarro were involved in the rehabilitation of the Banxico Museum.

The building was originally built in 1905, and was completely renovated and adapted as the Central Bank of Mexico. Restoration and transformation was done on the first three floors to turn it into a museum.

“The project addressed the two permanent exhibition halls on the main floor, one dedicated to the origins of currency and the other focusing on the Central Bank of Mexico. On the ground floor, the vault spaces and safe deposit boxes are turned into multimedia spaces, and on the upper floor the mezzanine where the bathrooms, temporary exhibition spaces and the museum shop are located,” details the DNA Paris Design Awards page.

Among the main objectives of the Museum is access to Banxico’s numismatic collection, promoting experiences that trigger a critical reflection on money in people’s lives, as well as Banxico’s relationship with society in a bidirectional and dynamic way.

The entrance to this building located on Avenida 5 de Mayo 2, in the Centro neighborhood of CDMX, is free, although it is necessary to reserve through the website http://museobancodemexico.mx or directly at the Museum access, subject to availability. We recommend making the reservation online.
