Colombian banks started 2022 with positive figures as they recorded profits of $1.09 billiona result that represents a growth of 91% compared to the same month of 2021 when the figure reached $570,952 million.

According to the figures presented by the Financial Superintendence, the credit establishments, in which in addition to the banks are the financial corporations, the financing companies and the financial cooperatives, recorded profits of $1.24 trillion, that is, 75% higher than January 2021.
According to the Superfinanciera, this good result was driven mainly by interest income.
The total of the Colombian financial system presented losses in the first month of $3.17 billion.
The insurance industry recorded losses of $160.5 billion, explained by the adjustment in the technical reserves of life insurance entities in the life annuities branch and the pension and severance fund management companies due to losses of $8.9 billion. Managed third-party resources recorded negative returns of $4.5 trillion, representing a reduction of $6.8 trillion compared to January 2021 ($2.3 trillion), mainly due to the behavior of debt securities.

The Superfinanciera said that the growth of the total portfolio for the sixth consecutive month responds to the dynamism of all modalities. In January, the gross balance amounted to $575.8 trillion, with which the deepening indicator stood at 48.8% of GDP.
In real terms, the gross loan portfolio registered an annual variation of 3.5%.
In January, the fifth consecutive month of reduction in the overdue balance was completed. The portfolio that reports delinquency greater than 30 days reached $23.9 billion. The daily portfolio reached $551.9 billion, 95.8% of the total balance.

Banco de Bogotá was the entity with the best result in the first month of the year with profits of $306,773 million, followed by Bancolombia, with profits of $253,025 million, Corficolombiana with $124,834 million and Davivienda with $110,824 million.
