With the presence of the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, Banco República (BROU) and the Union of Exporters awarded the 2022 recognition to the export sector. The head of the bank, Salvador Ferrer, stated that Uruguayan exports increased 20% compared to 2021 and represented almost 14,000,000 dollars. In addition, the Government is making an effort to open up the markets, he recalled.
The president was accompanied in the activity, this Wednesday the 30th at the BROU headquarters, in addition to Ferrer, the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón; the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado; the Deputy Secretary of the Presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés; the Ministers of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Fernando Mattos; of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche; for Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini, and for Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres. The president of the Union of Exporters, Facundo Márquez, also attended.
“Exporting unites us, (it is) working as a team and growing in the world to generate employment and opportunities for Uruguayans,” said Ferrer, in his speech. And he added: “Export development is one of the pillars of economic development.”
He recalled that the Government “has a clear direction and is making an effort to open up” to reach new markets. In this sense, he valued the negotiations begun to finalize a free trade agreement (FTA) with China and the entry into the Trans-Pacific Agreement.
On the other hand, he argued that 2022 represents another record year for Uruguayan exports. In the 12 months ending in September, foreign sales reached almost 14,000,000 dollars, a figure that represents an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year, he explained.
At the meeting, the largest exporters, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that export goods, and the main entrepreneurs were awarded for their efforts to reach the world with their Uruguayan products and services.
