Bad non-commissioned officers rob hero police officer who thwarted assault on money changer

POLICÍA

Only hours after a furious Minister of the Interior accused in an official activity that he warned of a campaign “that tries to make people believe that there are more bad police officers than good ones,” it was known that two agents were arrested for allegedly robbing their own colleague, his companion, non-commissioned officer Pedro Baltazar Sánchez, the brave officer wounded by a bullet in the face after thwarting the assault on a money changer in San Borja.

There are more good police officers than bad ones, it is true, but it is still true that these outrageous events hit the image of an institution that in recent days saw another of its members involved in an execrable femicide.

Third-class non-commissioned officers Emerson Huamaní Tardeo and Christopher Mena Murriet are accused of taking 800 soles and the police hero’s cell phone while he was taken bloodied to a clinic for treatment. The enemy seems to be at home.

According to one of Baltazar’s relatives, when he asked for the non-commissioned officer’s belongings to be handed over, he noticed that money was missing from the wallet.

Meanwhile, the First Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of San Borja is carrying out preliminary proceedings against these two detained bad agents and has arranged to collect the necessary statements, videos from security cameras that recorded the events and carry out other investigative acts to clarify what happened.

“If their responsibility is confirmed, they will be imprisoned and expelled from the National Police without honor,” Juan José Santiváñez said yesterday.

IT IS URGENT TO CHANGE THE LAW

The bad actions of these two non-commissioned officers make people lose confidence in their Police, warns General José Baella. “This fact causes shame and indignation and logically greatly affects the image of the institution,” he points out.

For the former head of the Dircote, the current disciplinary regime law must be changed, as it is too guaranteeing and protectionist and prevents a police officer arrested in flagrante delicto from being immediately expelled from the institution, since the sanctioning process can take up to two years.

“Reconsideration deadlines, administrative actions have to be met, and even the lawyers of the investigated police officers delay the investigation, seeking to make the case statute of limitations,” Baella explained to Perú21TV.

“The police who cross the line of good are criminals, they have betrayed all Peruvians, the institution, and their families and they should not follow the Police for another minute,” he concluded.
