The Ancash Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) reported that an avalanche of snow fell on 6 tourists – between Peruvians and foreigners – when they climbed the Huascarán mountain. Two of the foreigners were severely injured.
It happened yesterday, Thursday, June 16, at 07:30 a.m., in the La Canaleta sector of the Huascarán mountain, located in the province of Yungay. Meanwhile, the High Mountain Rescue Department learned of the incident at 1:00 p.m., heading to the scene to attend to and evacuate the injured people.
It was reported that the two injured are of Polish nationality, in addition, they were identified as Slawomir Wiltor (45) and Patryk Dawid Luczynski (38).
According to the report of the Association of Mountain Guides of Peru, their rescue team arrived first at the accident site (10:00 am) and provided first aid to the injured Poles.
“It was learned that there were 6 mountaineers who were making the ascent. Two are Peruvians, two Americans and two of Polish nationality, the latter being the ones who were injured.”, detailed the COER.

At 7:45 p.m. yesterday, both injured mountaineers were transferred to the Musho town center to later be taken to the city of Huaraz.
However, only today, June 17, at 5:20 a.m., the patients were transferred by ambulance to the San Pablo de Huaraz Clinic to receive their respective care.
A new COER report is expected to know the health status of both foreigners.
