At the most acute moment of the crisis in the north, the Comptroller's Office takes note of the regulations of the Migration Law

In the midst of new demonstrations in the north against migrants, this as a result of the death of a truck driver at the hands of three Venezuelans who are detained in Antofagasta, this Friday afternoon the Comptroller General of the Republic was right to the regulation of Law of Migrations (21,325).

The law was enacted last April with the aim of having more tools to deal with the migratory situation in the country, and on December 6, the Executive submitted Decree 296 to the controlling entity, which precisely contains this regulation.

However, a week ago the same Executive withdrew the rule to make corrections and re-enter it as soon as possible. This event occurred just during the demonstrations in Iquique after Venezuelan citizens beat Carabineros, which generated a series of criticisms against the Government of Sebastián Piñera. In addition to that, the Comptroller’s Office had exceeded the term for its review and had not ruled despite having received three documents from different organizations that requested to declare certain articles unconstitutional and illegal.

This Friday, a week later, he was admitted again, and after a review, analysis and subsequent modification of some specific articles, the regulatory body was right.

In this way, the regulation made up of 182 articles that cover, among other things, fundamental principles of protection, migratory categories, infractions and migratory sanctions, and expulsion and assisted return, is ready to be published in the Official Gazette.
