At least 5 dead and 16 injured left the head-on collision between a minivan and a car on the Arequipa-Puno highway, at Km146 +500, near the town center of Imata and the Pillones sector.
The traffic accident occurred at around 5 am this Sunday when the VAR-969 license plate minivan was heading from Juliaca to Arequipa. While the car with license plate V0L-665 went in the opposite direction.
According to witnesses reported to Canal N, the car that hit the minivan would have invaded the opposite lane and ended up colliding with the side of the smaller vehicle that was transporting passengers. The unit was an hour away from reaching Arequipa when the accident occurred.
Meanwhile, agents from the Highway Unit stabilized and transferred the injured to the San Juan de Dios and San Pablo clinics in Arequipa.
According to the aforementioned media, the deceased are all the occupants of the car, while the injured are the passengers who were in the minivan.
