At 91, Francisco Cumplido, former Minister of Justice of the government of Patricio Aylwin, passed away

During the afternoon of this Saturday, Francisco Cumplido Cereceda, former Minister of Justice during the government of former Christian Democrat President Patricio Aylwin, died at the age of 91.

Through its social networks, the party for Christian Democracy (DC) lamented the death of Cumplido and sent condolences to his family and friends.

“The @PDC_Chile. regrets the death of comrade Francisco Cumplido Cereceda, prominent constitutional lawyer and former Minister of Justice of President Patricio Aylwin. We send our condolences to his family and friends,” they expressed from the political party.

Fulfilled was a jurist and academic of political institutions and constitutional law. During his administration, he highlighted his role in the formation and work of the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which had the objective of clarifying the human rights violations committed during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, between September 11, 1973 and 11 March 1990.

The Minister of Justice, Marcela Ríos, lamented the death of the DC politician and recalled her work as Prime Minister of said portfolio after democracy was recovered.

“As Minister of Justice and Human Rights, I deeply regret the death of Francisco Cumplido, the first Minister of Justice after democracy was restored,” she tweeted.

While the head of Justice during the second government of Sebastián Piñera, Hernán Larraín, said that “we regret to inform ourselves of the death of Don Francisco Cumplido, which constitutes a great loss for his family and for Chile as a whole. He was an outstanding lawyer, professor and Minister of Justice, who deserves all our recognition. We express our condolences.”

In addition, the former minister of the same portfolio, Soledad Alvear, reported that “Francisco Cumplido, my great professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chile, a brilliant academic and a consistent person in public and private matters, passed away. Rest in peace, thank you for so much.”

Similarly, the ex-conventional Fuad Chahin (DC), maintained that “he was a great jurist, politician, a key man also for reconciliation through the laws called Fulfilled as Minister of Justice who collaborated in national reconciliation, at a time so difficult for our country.”
