Assembly today deals with the ‘Pandora Papers’ report

The document was prepared and approved on November 5 by the Assembly’s Constitutional Guarantees Commission.

The session 747 of the Plenary of the Assembly was installed on the morning of this Thursday, December 2, 2021. It is expected that during the day, legislators will know and resolve on the report carried out by the Constitutional Guarantees Commission in relation to the case ‘Pandora Papers‘, in which the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, was appointed.

The president of the legislature, Guadalupe Llori, made the call on November 30. At report, a majority of legislators from UNES and Pachakutik concluded that the President and officials have investments in tax havens. The document indicates that the Ethical Pact approved in the popular consultation of 2017.

The approval of the report has had objections. Assembly members Édgar Quezada and Sofía Sánchez, from Pachakutik, indicated that the text was approved with “Last minute adjustments”, that were not debated at the legislative table. There they pointed out that the recommendation suggesting Lasso’s dismissal for alleged social upheaval had not been debated.

For the elaboration of the report, the Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation for alleged ideological falsehood and requested information from the legislative board.

Assemblymen Virgilio Saquicela and Gruber Zambrano from the National Agreement Bank (BAN) presented a report of minority in which they request the file of the case for lack of reasons. (DP)
