The director and founder of Asotránsito, Lilian Romero, denounced this Monday, April 10, that there is opacity regarding the official statistics of fatalities and injuries due to traffic accidents, which in her opinion prevents concrete actions from being taken to reduce accidents in the streets, highways and highways of Venezuela.

In an interview granted to Circuit HitsRomero denounced that since 2013 the authorities have not presented official figures in this regard and said that, currently, each municipality manages the accident rate. For this reason, he stressed that the official spokespersons only indicate that accidents are decreasing, but they do not give real numbers.
He commented that the work in Asotránsito has become difficult because they do the monitoring through what is published or known by the media, however, he said that the true numbers must be given by the morgue; body that actually manages the data on deaths from accidents and those injured.

“We are bad on the road. If this is not controlled now, in 2024 it will be crazy like India. Lack of road culture. People don’t respect traffic signals,” he commented.
In his opinion, the operations do help control the roads so that drivers slow down, “but accidents do not drop just like that, when there are also drivers under the influence of alcohol.” In the same way, he believes that citizens have worsened in the handling of vehicles and stresses that there is anarchy in the streets.
He stressed that in Caracas and in states such as Carabobo, Aragua, Zulia, Lara, Vargas and Anzoátegui special care must be taken, since historically it is where the largest road accidents are recorded in the country. He added that in the early morning hours, when there are no operations, more accidents with deaths occur.
On the other hand, he recognized that road accidents did indeed decrease thanks to the operations, but he clarified that they were carried out at specific points.
He called on citizens to do their part and train in driver education to minimize traffic accidents.
