Scientific societies, civil organizations and universities asked for the “immediate legislative debate” of the Zero Alcohol Law at the wheel and warned that “Road insecurity is the main cause of death in people under 35 years of age”in view of the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies committees that will be held next week to advance in the opinion of a consensus project.
Although the plenary of the Transportation commissions, chaired by Jorge Rizotti (UCR), and Internal Security, led by Ramiro Gutiérrez (Frente de Todos), was scheduled for this Tuesday, the meeting was suspended for agenda reasons until next week, according to parliamentary sources.
The Forum made up of 84 institutions issued a new statement on Tuesday in support of the project that seeks to ban the driving of vehicles with blood alcohol concentration, promoted by the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV), under the Ministry of Transport.
This request is added to the one they made in November 2021 requesting the advancement of the initiative in Congress.
In the text, which is addressed to the president of the Deputies Transport Commission, Jorge Rizzotti, they expressed “the importance for this Forum of passing a law aimed at preventing road incidents associated with alcohol consumption”.
They also stressed that “the immediate legislative debate on the proposal is a priority.”
Among the arguments, the statement mentions that “road insecurity is the main cause of death in people under 35 years of age and that in 1 out of every 4 deceased, alcohol was detected in the blood.”
Meanwhile, in the meeting that was postponed for next week, the deputies will seek to advance in the signing of a consensual office to establish zero alcohol at the wheel with the aim of taking it to the premises in the next session of the body.
