Former Senator of the Republic Armando Benedetti was confirmed as the new Ambassador of Colombia in Venezuela, President Gustavo Petro confirmed in an official address.

“I have decided, in response to the Venezuelan Government, which has appointed ambassador to appoint Armando Benedetti as Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, hoping for the approval of that Government and also with the arduous task of normalizing relations between the two countries, reestablishing the institutional framework that existed decades before so that the two brother peoples can guarantee their rights, their freedoms and ensure that between the two countries wealth can be generated for both peoples”, said the head of state.
For his part, the experienced Colombian politician He thanked his appointment on his Twitter account.

Benedetti served as campaign manager of the current president Petro during the electoral stage.
Benedetti’s appointment confirms the rumor that was circulating in public opinion in recent weeks and comes after Nicolás Maduro announced the appointment of the former foreign minister Felix Plasencia as the Venezuelan ambassador in Bogotá.
