Voices of protests continue to be added against the measure adopted by the Argentine Government by applying a toll of 1.47 dollars per ton for transport on the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, despite the fact that there is no consideration to specify this charge.
“They announced in October that they would establish a toll for navigation between the confluence of the Paraná River with the Paraguay River to Santa Fe. Argentina did not respect the 180-day standby measure requested by Paraguay“questioned Esteban Dos Santos, president of the Center for River and Maritime Shipowners of Paraguay, in conversation with Universo 970 AM of Nación Media.
Despite the fact that this 180-day truce agreement existed, Argentina did not keep its word and began to apply the toll of 1.47 dollars per ton for transport on the waterway.
Dos Santos added that from the sector they maintain the position that said charge does not correspond, for what they describe as “illegal” the measure.

“Our Foreign Ministry will have hard work, it must contact the other countries that signed the Paraná Waterway Agreement. If this is not resolved immediately, Paraguay has to act in the international arena,” stressed Dos Santos.
For his part, engineer Enrique Duarte, head of the Federation of Production, Industry and Commerce (FEPRINCO), said that “It is a unilateral position and it goes against the navigability agreements of the Paraná-Paraguay Rivers.”
