Argentina invites Biden to the CELAC summit

Hoy Paraguay

The Argentine ambassador to the United States, Jorge Argüello, hand-delivered the formal invitation from President Alberto Fernández to the head of US diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean, Brian Nichols, the embassy reported.

if you acceptBiden will attend as a special guest at a summit that will include the participation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, that shows signs of wanting to break the international isolation that Brazil experienced during the term of his predecessor, the far-right Jair Bolsonaro.

It is possible that Biden will take advantage of the occasion to talk with Lula before he travels to Washington for an undated visit.

Neither does that of Argentine President Fernández, which has been talked about for months without materializing.

During the meeting, the Argentine ambassador spoke with Nichols about bilateral relations, which according to Argüello go through “one of its best historical moments”.

However, as other trade partners of the United States such as France have raised, the Argentine ambassador asked for clarifications on the so-called Inflation Reduction Law which, among other things, grants subsidies to electric vehicles.

Argüello estimates that this law may affect Argentine lithium exports because it makes the subsidies conditional on the fact that most of the metals for the batteries come from or are processed in the United States or in a country with which it has a free trade agreement. And Argentina does not have it.

Besides, they planned the commemorative acts of the bicentennial of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries in 1823, scheduled in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta and Houston.

The entrance Argentina invites Biden to the CELAC summit was first published on newspaper TODAY.
