"Argentina, 1985" was nominated to compete for the Oscar for Best International Film

“Argentina, 1985”, the film by Santiago Miter with Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani that follows the story of prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo in the Trial of the Boards of the last civil-military dictatorship, was formally nominated in the category for Best International Film of the 95th. edition of the Oscars, which will take place on March 12 in Los Angeles, and will thus go in search of the third Hollywood Academy statuette for the country.

With this nomination, the film could share the achievement obtained by “La historia oficial” (1985), by Luis Puenzo and with the protagonists of Norma Aleandro and Héctor Alterio as the parents of a girl appropriated to a disappeared couple; and for “The Secret in Her Eyes” (2009)the suspense drama by Juan José Campanella that Darín led with Soledad Villamil and Guillermo Francella.

Until the nomination, Argentina had managed to find a place on the list five other times, with “La trugua” (1974, by Sergio Renán), “Camila” (1984, by María Luisa Bemberg), “Tango, don’t leave me never “(1998, by Carlos Saura), “The Bride’s Son” (2001, by Juan José Campanella), and “Wild Tales” (2014, by Damián Szifron).

In addition, Miter’s film will try to make the acclaimed German (anti)war film set in the First World War uncomfortable in the shortlist “No news at the front”by Edward Berger and adapted from the renowned novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, which received eight other nominations in different award categories.

“Close” (Belgium, by Lukas Dhont), “EO” (Poland, Jerzy Skolimowski) and “The Quiet Girl” (Ireland, spoken in Gaelic, by Colm Bairéad) complete the shortlist of non-English language films that will compete for the statuette.

For its part, the dramatic and science fiction comedy “Everything everywhere at the same time” will arrive at the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, which will have the presenter and comedian Jimmy Kimmel in the role of conductor, as the most nominated of the occasion , with eleven nominations, followed by “All Quiet on the Front” and “The Spirits of the Island”, with nine respectively.
