the bench of Alliance for Progress (APP) joined this Thursday the agreement of the Board of Spokespersons regarding the request for early elections. In this way, the debate for the new electoral elections could be resumed tomorrow, Friday, in the session of the plenary session of the Congress.
In the morning hours, Alejandro Soto, APP spokesman, presented a letter addressed to the senior officer of Congress, José Cevasco, in order to formalize the position of his bench before the early elections.
“The objective is to contribute to the debate once and for all on the shortening of the mandate of the president, of the congressmen and to go to an election process this year or in 2024. Remember that we already voted in favor of an early election. We are not responsible for the fact that other political groups have had to seek reconsiderations or justifications to bring all this down,” Alejandro Soto said in statements to the press.
In that review he mentioned that “Alliance for Progress has always opted for debating the early elections without conditions. We have not said that we want constitutional reforms, we have not said that we want a constituent assembly. We have said we are going to an early election. That is why we have approved the project of the advancement of elections to 2023 and also the project of the Executive of 2024 “.
Alejandro Soto called on the other benches to agree with the early elections.
“We are not responsible for those who have requested reconsiderations to bring down this entire project that was approved in the first vote. The new request for the advancement of elections has never been communicated to us. For this reason, today I am informing the Congressional Office that APP adheres to the motion to advance the elections,” he said.
