Antonio Anastasia takes office as minister of the TCU

Former senator Antonio Anastasia took office today (3) as minister of the Federal Audit Court (TCU). Yesterday (2), Anastasia resigned from the Senate to occupy the position of minister at the TCU. Also on Tuesday, Anastasia’s alternate, Alexandre Silveira (PSD-MG), took office in the Senate.

Anastasia disputed the nomination of the Senate for the TCU with senators Kátia Abreu (PP-TO) and Fernando Bezerra Coelho (MDB-PE). He won the contest, held in December last year, by 52 votes.

Former governor of Minas Gerais, Antonio Anastasia is a lawyer. He was born in Belo Horizonte on May 9, 1961 and will be able to stay at the Court of Auditors until 2036, when he will be 75 years old and will have to retire compulsorily.

At the inauguration ceremony at the TCU, Anastasia said that she considers the enactment of Law 13.655/2018, known as the Legal Security Law, her greatest achievement in the Senate. The legislation brings new articles to the Law of Introduction to the norms of Brazilian Law. Presented by Anastasia in 2015, the project deals with legal certainty and efficiency in the creation and application of public law.

“[A lei] encourages us to have an environment of prosperity, a necessary economic environment so that not only the business world, but also the common citizen, can invest, carry out their actions, and [para] that the public manager does not have the fear, the fear of the famous blackout of pens and can decide with tranquility”, he said, in a speech.
