The National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (INVIMA) has taken four presentations of formula milk off the market.

Colombia News.

There are already two babies who have died in the United States after consuming formula milk contaminated with the bacteria Cronobacter sakazakiimuno and Slamonella produced in the Abbott laboratories factory located in Sturgis, City of the State of South Dakota.

The batch of these products not suitable for human consumption belong to the Similac PM 60/40 references with batch code 27032K80 (can) / 27032K800 (box), which were distributed in the United States and Israel. Also, the formulas previously withdrawn by the FDA are the lots of Similac, Alimentum and EleCare that meet these criteria:

  • The first two digits of the code are from 22 to 37.
  • The package code includes K8, SH or Z2.
  • The expiration date is 4-1-2022 (APR 2022) or later.

This decision was made after the FDA (The Food and Drug Administration) after receiving complaints from some parents who reported the cases to the health service and traces of bacterial infections were found in babies who consumed the products.

Four minors were hospitalized, three of them due to the Cronobacter sakazakiimuno bacteria. Two of them died, one due to causes associated with the infection generated by the Salmonella bacteria.

“The patient had consumed Abbott Nutrition’s Similac PM 60/40 product with lot code 27032K800 prior to Cronobacter sakazakii infection,” the FDA said of this case.

Invima suggests that Colombians immediately report any discovery of these references in supermarkets, drugstores and other points of sale.

Also, they go to the media to socialize this very important information for the health of Colombians.
