Judicial elections are at risk. From the Legislative and Electoral bodies they see risks to carry out the process of selection of judicial magistrates. The president of the Senate, Andrónico Rodríguez (MAS), suspects that there is a political background after the delay of the Plurinational Constitutional Court (TCP) in issuing a ruling on this process. The electoral body stated that if the Legislative Assembly does not deliver the list of candidates by September 3, the election cannot be held on December 3, as initially agreed.
“Unfortunately, the TCP, having the determined term, did not issue the ruling and as a result of that, this (the elections) has been delayed and, of course, the times are getting shorter and the Supreme Electoral Tribunal has mentioned very clearly that it does not it gives enough time”, affirmed Rodríguez.
The legislator, who responds to the ‘evista’ wing, suspects that there are interests involved behind the delay in the decision to be made by the TCP, although he said he would wait until the end of month an answer.
“Let’s hope that it is not a political decision of any State body (the delay), any statement can be very a priori. There is a risk that the judicial elections will be carried out, that is clear, ”said Rodríguez.
The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) guaranteed the holding of the judicial elections for Sunday, December 3 in the event that the Legislative Assembly concludes the pre-selection process on Sunday, September 3 and delivers the lists of pre-selected applicants the following day.
“We don’t really know, and it must be said, if we are going to arrive on time, if we are going to be able to hold the elections, if there are going to be elections,” TSE president Óscar Hassenteufel said on Friday.
