After 43 days of confinement in solitary confinement, the mother of the political prisoner Ana Margarita Vijil, María Josefina Gurdián, known as Doña Pinita, recounted the conditions in which her daughter finds herself, who has been locked up for almost 11 months in The chipotle.
“It was a very hard day for me because in the morning they had to transfuse me with two packages of blood,” began Doña Pinita, who suffers from cancer and the dictatorship confiscated her passport when she tried to travel to Costa Rica to treat the disease.
“I was impressed to see her getting thinner every day. All the political prisoners in El Chipote suffer from hunger and not everything that we achieve that they accept us every day manages to reach their hands », denounced Gurdián, through a letter spread on his Facebook profile.
However, “more than her thinness, I am impressed by the person who, through suffering, solitary confinement, prison conditions, far from intimidating or embittering her, is making her a better person every day. They have never been able to erase her sincere smile, the cleanliness of her gaze that reflects a compassionate and generous soul. She works every day turning all the suffering into a positive”, adds the mother of the Ortega prisoner.
Other prisoners in worse conditions
“More than worrying about her, she worries about others who are in worse conditions,” insists Gurdián. The majority of relatives of political prisoners have reported that their imprisoned relatives have lost up to 50 pounds in weight and some are suffering serious damage to their health.
The lawyers of the young university student Lésther Alemán, for example, said from the day of the trial that the student leader was suffering intense pain in his legs and his thinness was reaching the point that he could not stand up during the hearing.
While the political prisoner and activist Violeta Granera, according to what her relatives have denounced, is totally deteriorated, to the point of losing her teeth.
In the hands of the dictatorship and in conditions that are still in the dark, the political prisoner and former retired general Hugo Torres died.
He turned his anger into compassion
Ana Margarita’s mother recounted that her daughter told her during the visit of just under two hours that “at first she was irritated by the mistreatment —by the police and torturers—, but she realized that it harmed her more than her and has managed to transform that irritation into compassion for the people who exercise what seems to be power. She meditates, prays, thinks of all the good that she has received from her during her life… », she confided.
Doña Pinita said that her daughter, the former president of the Unión Democrática Renovadora (Unamos) party, who became one of the most defiant activists against the Ortega dictatorship in the streets, “as a lawyer, she says that with all the prisoners policies has not kept even the slightest rules of international law. She protests and will continue to protest about it.”
«Ana Margarita is imprisoned and held incommunicado for love. I left crying recognizing the greatness of her soul and thinking that I am her mother », says Gurdián in the main part of her description.
