The National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved this Thursday the draft agreement to celebrate School Chess Day in Venezuela.
The project was presented by Deputy Isis Cordero, who recalled that this proposal was developed by Commander Hugo Chávez and by the then Minister of Education, Aristóbulo Istúriz.
“Commander Hugo Chávez decided in 2005, in the company of our always remembered Aristobulo Istúriz, who at that time was the Minister of Education, and who is worth mentioning today, two years after his physical departure, to say that his work and their struggle continue to be an example for this generation and for future generations,” he said at the ordinary session of the AN.
Similarly, the deputy recalled that Commander Chávez established that chess had to be taken as “a new learning technique” for all children and young people.
April 25: National Chess Day
In this regard, he indicated that the agreement proposes to establish April 25 as National Chess Day, in order to strengthen the teaching of this sport in all educational centers in the country.

In this sense, the president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, highlighted the nine medals that the team has won in the fair that takes place in the country until April 29.
“We are grateful for the presence, and that we commemorate, celebrate and appreciate this wonderful practice such as chess, as a formative element,” said the deputy.
The decision to declare April 25 as Chess Day in Venezuela was made on the basis of the evaluation made of the achievements made, in less than a year, through the application of an innovative proposal from the National Sports Institute called the Strategic Project. National School Chess.
By that date in 2005, it had already trained more than 26,000 teachers at the national level as facilitators in the area, the Venezuelan Chess Federation highlighted in celebrations of previous years.
