The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, said he had some control over the actions of the drug gangs in Rivera, and warned of a “alarm” that was generated in social networks regarding the cases.
“We want to talk to those who are investigating, see the information they are handling. I get the feeling that an alarm has been generated which is much more widespread due to the networks and the fear of course that we understand from the population. But we understand that we have the issue quite mastered,” Rivera said.where he traveled this Saturday to learn about the investigation.
The chief added that criminal groups “are operating from Brazil and commit crimes in Uruguay”. Police have carried out 14 raids “in these days,” he said. And he affirmed that it is necessary to “see the direct report” and make a “collective analysis” with the departmental authorities on what happens on the border with Santana do Livramento.
It is a “border fight,” Heber added. “We want to have a kind of retaining wall in Rivera –of crime– of the organized gangs on the other side. We can’t do that alone, but in coordination with Brazil.”
In this regard, he said he had “an excellent relationship with the police authorities” of that country.
