President Gabriel Boric heads a new cabinet council from 8:00 am, in La Moneda. The instance -in which all the ministers of State meet- takes place in the midst of a tension in the ruling party for the Comprehensive and Progressive Treaty of Trans-Pacific Association (CPTPP, better known as TPP11).
Let us remember that the Senate discussed the project yesterday, which has been in Congress since 2018. However, the treaty was not voted on because senators from Approve Dignidad requested a “second discussion.” This implies that the vote will be in a future session.

Parliamentarians of Democratic Socialism, such as Ricardo Lagos Weber (PPD), have urged that the treaty be approved. On the contrary, in I Approve Dignity, the senators have been more inclined to reject the text and have aimed to wait for the side letters.
The side letters they are part of a Government strategy to avoid the controversial investor-State dispute resolution mechanism, which is contained in the TPP11.
“For the Government it is very important to move forward and achieve the agreement of the side letters or side letters through which we intend with Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Canada to obtain an agreement with each of those countries so that the dispute resolution mechanism is not the one contemplated by the TPP”, explained yesterday the Segpres minister, Ana Lya Uriarte.
“We have already started the process of side letters with the countries that make up the TPP. We already have a response from some and we are missing the response from another group of countries. About five are the ones we’re missing,” he added.
Likewise, he ruled out a tension between the government coalitions. “There is no tension between coalitions because this is a situation, so to speak, mixed. Both coalitions, each party within its own organization has positions for and against the TPP,” said the head of the Segpres.
The cabinet council is also given in the preview of the 2023 Budget. The Executive has until Friday to present the project. In fact, it is expected that this Thursday night President Gabriel Boric will make a national broadcast informing the axes of the budget.
