MIAMI, United States. — The US company American Airlines requested authorization from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to resume operations to five Cuban provinces, the newspaper reported today miami herald.
The airline, which already has six daily flights to the José Martí International Airport in Havana, hopes to increase its trips to the air terminals of Santa Clara, Holguín, Varadero, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba, always from the Miami International Airport.
Point out the miami herald that, if it receives permission from the Department of Transportation, American Airlines could resume operations within the island next November.
According to the Miami newspaper, the airline plans to have two daily flights to Santa Clara and one daily to Holguín, Varadero, Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba.
The company assured in a statement that the additional flights to Cuba “will improve service and access between the United States and other cities outside of Havana, in addition to offering the best connectivity to Cuba through American’s operations center in Miami.”
American Airlines’ request to increase its travel comes less than a month after Department of Transportation Order 2022-6-1 went into effect, repealing actions taken by the Trump administration between 2019 and 2020.
With the new measure of the US government, the Notice of October 25, 2019, which limited the air operations of US carriers only to the José Martí International Airport, and the Notice of January 10, 2020, which liquidated charter flights between both countries, were suspended.
The elimination of flight restrictions to the Island is part of “The measures of the Administration announced on May 16 in support of the Cuban people”.
